I don't have any tips on here, because I'm so not a professional and don't really feel that I have the right to put up advice! I just look at something that I like and go for it!

But you asked about close ups. I just got my new camera a few months ago, and haven't saved up the dollars for any real lenses yet, so I'm only using the image stabilizer kit lens that came with the camera (also a Canon, so you might have a similar lens that came with yours). I just get as close as I can while still being able to focus, since it isn't a true macro lens, and shoot it. I've been struggling because of my lens limitations, since it's hard to get that nice shallow depth of field, but I'm finding that if I get close enough to the subject it compresses enough to get what I want, as long as I increase the shutter speed as much as I can.

Also I'm finding that getting down so I'm not taking pictures so much from the top, which is what I used to do, helps make the pictures more interesting. I still forget to do that sometimes, as evidenced by the second picture here.

I hope this helps a bit. Frankly, I really don't know much--I just like to get out and play!Lynnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18047395022515323715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256408707666190542.post-20104549696646189312009-10-27T04:18:55.190-07:002009-10-27T04:18:55.190-07:00Wow, I love your photographs!! I got a great Canon Rebel digital SLR camera for Christmas and now love taking pictures. You have inspired me to start doing it more regularly.
Do you give any tips on your site? I'd love to know how to take better close ups. When Pigs Flyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00930564541028569091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256408707666190542.post-11934643661768979422009-10-26T20:13:48.624-07:002009-10-26T20:13:48.624-07:00Thanks, Kathryn. It did look like the banded tussock moth, except that their range is slightly south of here. Maybe he's a roving gypsy moth (Hahaha!)Lynnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18047395022515323715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256408707666190542.post-9769779001474541122009-10-26T11:29:49.051-07:002009-10-26T11:29:49.051-07:00I looked in my Audubon book and it looks like it m...I looked in my Audubon book and it looks like it might be a Milkweed Tiger Moth caterpillar.Jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12573262524755768643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256408707666190542.post-7447159941031217272009-10-26T07:55:51.726-07:002009-10-26T07:55:51.726-07:00Oh my heavens, yes, Ocean Girl!
