Day 44: Feeding the Goat

Every year our family goes to Weakland Farm to pick a pumpkin at the patch.  It's a great place--petting zoo, corn maze, hay maze, hay mow to play in, hayride...loads of fun.  Anyway, today they had this goat as part of the petting zoo.  I can't say the pictures are the greatest, but perhaps you'll get an idea of how it went. Goats are really smart, and this one was quite funny, too.  The goat could walk up this ramp to the top of a platform, and there was a pully-type deal where you put in the food in the  bottom, turned the wheel, and it would go up a belt to the goat.  The rest is self explanatory:

Just in case you wondered...

"What does a gal have to do to get a snack around here?"

"It's in HERE!"

"Hurry it UP already!!!!"

"I guess I'll just have to do it myself."  She actually could turn the wheel at the top and bring the Cheerios up the belt unassisted.  It was pretty funny to watch.  It was like she was thinking, "If you want something done RIGHT, you have to do it yourself."

"Finally!"

We spent the majority of the time feeding Cheerios to this silly goat--we didn't even get to the corn maze, usually everyone's favorite part, because we spent so much time here that it got dark before we did much of anything else.  But you can tell from the kids' faces that they were having a ball!

Gee....who knew goats were so SMART!?!? I wonder if they vary the kind of cheerios they feed 'em. You know, one day Honey nut, one day Frosted, one day Apple Cinnamon...you get the idea....

Kathryn, I know! We had a goat when we were kids, but I never thought of Trudy as smart, particularly--although she had her moments. And the funny thing was that there WERE what looked like fruit-loops had been in the dispenser at one point. Acouple of them were hanging out at the edge avoiding the tunnel of doom.

Oy--I should be rested before posting anything. What's with the grammar and typos goin' on upstairs? :oP

Cute goat! I didn't know they were so smart.

Thanks so much for your comment. It helped me a lot. I visited that link you gave me and wow very nice portraits! I'm still not sure if I'll do it. I have a program called GIMP which is a lot like photoshop just not as advanced and harder to use, I had a graphic design class where I learned to retouch portraits and things like that. Maybe I can actually do it..

..we'll see!

I figure that a person is never going to know whether it's something they're going to enjoy unless they give it a try!

Emma's goat Rosepetal was also very smart. If Emma hopped up and down so did "Rose". She followed everyone around, chased the dogs, figured out how to get into things and knew just the right people to headbutt -- my favourite part of her behaviour. I like the wheel thing. That is pretty funny. Kids love goats. Rose was always the favourite when people visited here. My favourite of your pics is Julia pointing into the container showing it is in there. Very good!

LL--is that you, sis? :o) If it is, I have to say that we missed Rose this year. :o]
