Day 358

Went for a stroll down into Stackhouse again today.  I know, I know--we do that alot!  But honestly, it's so pretty down there, what's to be done on a nice afternoon but go there for a walk?  So, on our way back, a brilliant patch of colour catches my eye, so I quickly take a photo of it:

And a second later, while setting up for a different angle, the sun was gone, and the scene was a regular, dull, blah.  But for an instant, there was a shot, and for once I took it!

Also on our walk:

Only seven days left to the challenge!  Whooot!  What shall we do to celebrate?  I think something to do with chocolate might be in order...don't you?

Day 357: Let me introduce to you

"Topknothead Man."

Defender of Adam's bedroom against alien intruders.

He hears them from lightyears away.

He uses his hair to brush them nigh unto ticklishness, at which point they give up and fly away.

The sign also says, in big words that I didn't photograph:  "BOO!!"

That should do it, if the tickling doesn't.

(As Adam's mom, I was just so proud of how he drew a person that actually LOOKED like a person that I just had to show it off.  I think he's going to be the next great artiste of his generation, don't you think?)

Day 356: New Baby

$5 on ebay.

Found a place that sells 620 film.  Just have to order some and see what kind of photos we can make together, this little camera and me.  Should be fun.  Also found a Brownie for 99 cents.  Once I get some film, I'm going to go on a very careful, cautious, try not to wreck the expensive film that costs twice as much as both cameras together, photo walk.

It's waaaay latee.  I keep dozing over this!

Day 355

Can you guess?

Yup.  Tonight I introduced the kids to...

Jiffy Pop!

Which we are enjoying together, with a late bedtime (but hey, it's the weekend!), right now.  We have to see whether Scooby-Doo and pals save the day!

I remember making Jiffy Pop as a kid on the stove in the log house on the hill.  Haven't made it since, so this was pretty nostalgic.  *smile*

Day 354

Great day today, although since the greatest part was on a tube on a river, it didn't seem prudent to take my camera along.  Especially seeing as how during a bit of slight rapid, Julia's tube overturned, and the next thing I knew, my dear daughter was bobbing ahead of me down the river at a fairly brisk pace, and I slid off the tube and down stream to the rescue.  The river isn't called the "Stony Creek River" for nothing.  The whole river bottom is covered in stones--from smallish rocks to boulders.  And unlike a few years ago, when the mining industry had polluted the river to the point of no life, the river now teams with algae and fish, so the rocks were slippery as anything.  I'd grab Julia and try to brace myself on a rock only to find my feet sliding out beneath me.  It was a bit hairy, but thankfully safe (albeit for a couple of scrapes).  That said, having my camera definitely would NOT have been a good plan!  Even after that little bit of heart stopping action, Julia begged to go back and do the run AGAIN, which unfortunately we couldn't do.  It was a fantastic afternoon.  The weather was perfect during the run, starting to storm only when we headed to the car, and it was so very relaxing floating down the river.  Can hardly wait for next season!

Afterwards we went to Pizza Hut for supper.  I'm not crazy about pizza at the best of times, so my treat was these Hershey Dunker treats.  We ordered.  And waited.  And waited.  So finally decided to bring them home.

And we ate them.  And lo, although the photos were horrible and fuzzy because of the darkness, the dunkers were delish.

The end!

Day 353: Finger Cymbals

I always get a kick out of giving finger cymbals to people and seeing how they play them, because invariably they will stick their fingers through the straps then try to clang them together as though they're playing crash cymbals.  Then they get a look of disappointment on their face and start looking for another instrument to play!

But then I show them how.  You hold the little straps between you thumbs and forefingers, with the cymbals horizonal, one slightly above the other.  Then lower one and raise the other until the edges of the cymbals gently touch as they pass each other.  "Ting!"  It's beautiful!  And then EVERYONE wants to try! It's such a beautiful, ethereal, magical sound.

The only way they'd be good as crash cymbals would be if you, erm, wanted your Barbie doll to join the band, maybe?

***
I'm going to do this shot again tomorrow, and try to improve the shadow situation.  I was onlyusing natural light, and wasn't paying attention, obviously.  I like the sparkle, though!

Day 352: Itsy bitsy spider?

I think not.

And he's not going up the water spout, either.  Instead, he (she?) was camped out in the frame of the garage window.  I wish I could have gotten a shot from inside the garage, so we could see more than his underside, but he would have been too high up to get the picture without the potential of falling into the web.

And I wasn't about to court THAT sort of disaster!

Of course, then he'd having something to write home about:

"Hey mom, you should have seen the one that got away!  It was THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS big!!!"

Anyone know what kind of spider this is?

(Took this yesterday and completely forgot to post.  Didn't even cross my mind.  Which is what spending the day doing much needed housework does to a person.  Keeps them from thinking about the things that are REALLY important!  HAHA!)
