Day 97: Gingerbread House 2009

Right now I feel just like a little kid who comes home from school and says, " Mommy, today I made a new friend."  True.  It's just like that.

In a lesson or book or something ages ago, I read that a person is lucky to find 3 people during a lifetime that you really click with.  We're not talking just friendly acquaintences and people that are fun to hang with, but rather people that you really connect with.  I feel really blessed to have had people like that come into my life at various times, and now,  when I really need an bit of oomph in my life, got to spend some time today with a  person that could, perhaps, be one of my lucky three.  We have a lot of the same interests and goals, and we have kids around the same age and hubbies that get along as well.  How often does that perfect combination come along?  How great is that?  But what if I've already reached my good friends quota?  I think I've had more than three.  Am I allowed to overextend my friend allotment?

Anyway, Sarah and her family came over this evening for family night, and we had a ball making our annual gingerbread houses.  She ended up taking the photos (I must trust this girl to hand over my baby without even thinking about it!), and I got up to my elbows in frosting.

It was pretty funny, coz I just smeared frosting on the roof and let the kids go wild, thus attracting every kid in the vicinity to a space about a foot and a half squared.  Sarah's husband, on the other hand, happily and carefully decorated the other house unimpeded by professional assistance.

Here are a couple of the photos she took:

Yeah...definitely need to spend a bit more time blowdrying the hair at the back of my head.

And my two lonely photos.  I'm rather proud of my contribution to the festive decor. I constructed the wreath.  Thank you very much.  *bows*  Everything else is strictly kids doing what kids do best.  It was crazy fun.

A close up of the roof, so you can see the candy landfill in all it's glory.  Seriously, it does look like a candy factory blew up and the pieces flew up in the air and landed kersplat--right in the snow on the chateau.

And that, my friends, concludes another photo(s) of the day.  Almost at 100!

I love all the mish-mosh of colors! That house looks positively delicious!

And your hair looks just fine. Don't you give it a second thought.

Maureen: The trick is to provide the gingerbread kits, and when your friend says "What can I bring?" you say, "You're welcome to bring some candy to decorate with, if you'd like. But really--there is plenty in the kit." And then they bring a wack load of it!

Sheila: Yes! It's one of our favorite Christmas things.

Joyce: Yes! Especially now with the kits. These ones had the house already fully assembled, so we didn't even have to glue the pieces together! Wahoo!!

Jane: Yes! Try it! It's way fun!

Kathryn: I just love letting the kids go crazy on it. Then I'm not responsible for the result. :oD
